...which isn't a person but an instrument. It's name is Calibretto, named after one of my favorite bands (if not my favorite), Calibretto 13. Its a Dean EABC (electric acoustic bass cutaway). Needless to say, I play bass guitar.
Yesterday we traded my wife's Alvarez guitar for this Dean bass, a guitar she didn't play too much because she preferred her folk guitar (a smaller body). She has an electric guitar, but she doesn't like playing it. So losing her Alvarez wasn't a loss to her.
The bass isn't a solid top, but the sound has quite a punch. Plus I've never played a Dean bass; I own two electric Ibanez basses and a electric Peavey bass (inherited, it was my wife's pre-marriage). So in other words, this is my first acoustic I have ever owned. I'm actually quite impressed with it.
The body is large but the depth of it isn't too bad, I can still play with my fingers easily. It has 24 frets, which is really nice. The norm is 22 for most basses it seems. One of my other basses is a 24 fret as well, so I can personally attest to it's usefulness.
The neck is long, 34" long, but the depth of the neck isn't thick, which is very convenient. My other bass, Valentine (a Ibanez SR300), has an identical neck length. I haven't checked the width of the neck, but I had no issues playing it.
Overall, I think it was a pretty decent trade
Here's a pic of me playing it, to give you a idea of its size. I'm 5'5".

Black bass on the left is a Dean fretless. I like Dean's stuff.

Ooooo. I've only played acoustic a handful of times, namely back when I worked in a music store in high school (back when I actually touched a bass more than once every 4 months.) Very cool.

Actually, it's fretted, lol. I've noticed fretless acoustic basses are hard to find with a decent price.
I believe the length of the neck is the bridge to the bolt. My Ibanez sr300's neck is the 34", with 24 frets, but from the body to the end of the neck is like my other basses in length, but the width of the neck is thinner than most basses, and so is the depth of the neck. This adds up to smaller fret sizes, making it a breeze to play. My wife's peavey millennium has the standard 22 frets, so the frets are a bit wider.
What i do is I play them both, so I get used to both and not get accustomed to one, :).

I'm really surprised at it's sound. It's sounds like a plugged in electric bass with a small amp. It can be plugged-in, but it sorta of defeats the purpose of it.

A fretless is the next on my list. I'd prefer an acoustic fretless though. And I'm super jealous of your upright bass. It's out of my price range...

local music store had a student rental program, and the rental went toward purchase price.
